NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — Food Lion Feeds and the Carolina Hurricanes are teaming up for a season-long hunger-relief initiative that will connect Hurricanes shots on goal with meals for families across North Carolina.

Through “Stick It To Hunger,” Food Lion Feeds will help provide the equivalent of 50 meals for every Hurricanes shot on goal during the 2026-27 regular season, up to 150,000 meals.

Donations will benefit the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, supporting efforts to improve children’s health by increasing access to nutritious food and nutritional education for families across the state.

“At Food Lion, we want our neighbors to know they can count on us every day – in our stores and in the towns and cities we serve,” said Kevin Durkee, manager of Food Lion Feeds at Food Lion. “Partnering with the Hurricanes is another way we can help families put nourishing food on the table and enjoy those everyday moments together.”

Amy Daniels, executive director of the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, said the partnership will help expand the organizations’ efforts to support children and families.

Stick It To Hunger builds on Food Lion Feeds’ other sports-based hunger-relief initiatives, including Sack To Give Back and Score to Give More.

Food Lion Feeds said it works with local organizations across its 10-state operating area to help address food insecurity. The program was established in 2014 and has a goal of helping provide 3 billion meals by 2032.

The Hurricanes will open the 2026-27 regular season at home Sept. 29 against the Florida Panthers at Lenovo Center in Raleigh. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
