Burned body found near barn fire in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A burned body was found near the scene of a barn fire in Bladen County on Tuesday afternoon, according to county emergency management officials.

Bladen County Emergency Management Director Joey Coleman said emergency crews responded to a structure fire involving a barn around 3 p.m. in the White Lake Fire District.

The fire was reported on Barney Coe Road.

Coleman said crews found the burned body in the area surrounding the fire while working at the scene.

Officials believe the person may be the property owner, but an identity has not been confirmed.

The body was sent to the medical examiner’s office for further evaluation.

No additional information about the cause of the fire or the person’s death was immediately available.
