Columbus County woman faces drug trafficking charges involving Suboxone

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County woman is facing multiple drug charges after authorities accused her of possessing and transporting more than 13 grams of Suboxone, according to court records.
Courtney Melissa Stevens, 42, of Whiteville, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a magistrate’s order filed in Columbus County District Court, Stevens is charged with two counts of trafficking opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Court documents allege Stevens possessed and transported 13.52 grams of Suboxone sublingual film. The trafficking charges classify the substance as opium under the state statute listed in the court documents.
Stevens is also accused of possessing 0.5 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver it.
Court documents further allege she possessed marijuana with the intent to sell or deliver it.
Authorities allege Stevens maintained a 2008 Ford Taurus that was used to keep and sell controlled substances, including Suboxone, methamphetamine and marijuana.
She is also accused of possessing plastic bags and a pill bottle as drug paraphernalia, along with a separate bag allegedly intended to contain marijuana.
Stevens was given a $25,000 secured bond, according to court records.
Her case remains pending in Columbus County District Court. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. at the Columbus County Courthouse.
