North Brunswick football stays hot with 28-14 win over West Brunswick

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — North Brunswick football continued its strong start to conference play Friday night, defeating Brunswick County rival West Brunswick 28-14.

The Scorpions set the tone on their opening drive. Quarterback Eli Talley connected with MJ Smith for a touchdown to give North Brunswick an early 7-0 lead. North Brunswick found the end zone again on its next possession, with Talley connecting with Dean Ryals for a touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0.

West Brunswick looked to answer behind Kyle Floyd, who took an option run deep into Scorpions territory. But early in the second quarter, North Brunswick’s defense ended the threat when Zymier Thomas intercepted Floyd in the end zone.

The Scorpions added to their lead later in the quarter as Talley found Landon Fuchs for his third touchdown pass of the half.

North Brunswick capped off the first half with an unusual scoring play. After a botched snap, Talley recovered and ran the ball into the end zone for his fourth total touchdown of the half, sending the Scorpions into halftime with a 28-0 lead.

West Brunswick found the end zone in the second half, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. North Brunswick held on for the 28-14 victory, improving to 5-2 on the season with two conference wins.
