After-hours ghost hunts coming to historic Wilmington-area landmarks
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Those looking for a different way to explore some of the Wilmington area’s historic landmarks this fall will have a chance to do it after dark.
Haunted Rooms America is hosting a series of six-hour paranormal investigations at the Battleship North Carolina, Bellamy Mansion and Poplar Grove Plantation.
The events allow participants to explore the properties in small groups using ghost-hunting equipment provided by the organizers. Each investigation runs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Battleship North Carolina
Ghost hunts aboard the Battleship North Carolina are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 12.
The battleship was commissioned in 1941 and earned 15 battle stars during World War II.
During the event, organizers say participants will investigate decks and compartments throughout the ship, including some areas normally closed to the public and the area associated with the ship’s 1942 torpedo strike.
Admission is $149 per person.
Bellamy Mansion
The Bellamy Mansion will host ghost hunts Friday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Dec. 11.
The 22-room mansion on Market Street was built between 1859 and 1861 by enslaved and free Black artisans for Dr. John Bellamy and his family. It later served as a Union Army headquarters in 1865.
Organizers say participants will investigate the mansion using provided equipment, with an opportunity for a lone investigation on the fourth floor.
Admission is $129 per person.
Poplar Grove Plantation
Poplar Grove Plantation is also hosting paranormal investigations. An event scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, is sold out, according to Haunted Rooms America.
The historic property along U.S. 17 dates to the 1850s and was home to generations of the Foy family.
Admission for the event was listed at $129 per person.
The events are generally open to people 18 and older. Those ages 16 and 17 can participate when accompanied by a responsible adult.
