Wilmington Symphony Orchestra prepares to take audiences on a ‘journey’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is getting ready for several shows during the 2026-27 season.

WSO Music Director Peter Askim spoke with WWAY’s Jessica Keisling about the upcoming performances.

“The theme for this season is journeys,” Askim said. “So I think it’s just amazing the way music can take us on a journey. I love the idea of a thousand people sitting in an audience together all going all over the world through history, through culture all together.”

The next show on the calendar is Beethoven’s Fifth, one of the most recognizable pieces of music ever written.

That performance will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at CFCC’s Wilson Center.

The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra also gives back to the community in other ways.

“We’re really focused on education and outreach to our youth, so we have a couple of youth orchestras, we go into schools, we give away a lot of free tickets for kids to come in,” Askin added.
