16-year-old, driver injured in shooting on South Kerr Avenue in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are investigating an overnight shooting on South Kerr Avenue that injured a 16-year-old and the driver of an SUV.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers reported hearing multiple gunshots around 12:54 a.m. in the 200 block of South Kerr Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy who had been shot. Officers provided lifesaving care until EMS arrived, and the teenager was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined a gunman in a vehicle opened fire at an SUV, according to police. The 16-year-old was a passenger in the SUV and was struck by the gunfire.

Police said the driver of the SUV was also injured as a result of the gunfire. The driver’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Police have not released additional information about the teenager’s condition.

The investigation remains ongoing.
