WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina Wilmington are partnering to host a free community symposium focused on rehabilitation, reentry and second chances for people who have been incarcerated.

The event, titled “Pathways & Second Chances: A Community Reentry Symposium,” will take place Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at CFCC’s Union Station.

The symposium is being organized by CFCC’s Criminal Justice Club and UNCW’s Sociology & Criminology Club.

Attendees will have opportunities to participate in panel discussions, connect with community resources and learn more about programs supporting people transitioning back into their communities after incarceration.

Lateisha Thrash, director of reentry services with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, will serve as the featured guest speaker.

New Hanover County District Attorney Jason Smith will also participate in a question-and-answer session at the end of the program.

Several community organizations will take part in the event, including Coastal Horizons, Leading Into New Communities (LINC), the North Carolina Formerly Incarcerated Transition Program and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Discussions will focus on rehabilitation, successful reentry and creating sustainable opportunities for people seeking a second chance.

The symposium will be held in Windell Daniels Hall, Room U508, inside CFCC’s Union Station.

The event is free and open to the public.
