Holly Ridge buys former J&J Snack Foods property for $4.5 million

HOLLY RIDGE, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Holly Ridge has purchased the former J&J Snack Foods property for $4.5 million, with plans to explore turning the site into a community hub for public services, recreation and future downtown development.
The property, located at 312 Sound Road, was acquired following approximately eight months of negotiations.
Town officials say the purchase creates an opportunity to repurpose the former industrial facility to meet the needs of Holly Ridge’s growing population.
One possibility under consideration is transforming the property into a civic center that could house multiple municipal departments, indoor recreational facilities, meeting spaces and community programs.
Other potential uses include emergency operations facilities, partnerships with government agencies and public gathering spaces.
Town leaders also see the property as an opportunity to support long-term downtown development by potentially attracting nearby restaurants, shops and other businesses.
The $4.5 million purchase includes a $900,000 down payment and $3.6 million in financing.
According to the town, no property tax rate increase was proposed specifically to cover payments for the acquisition.
While the purchase is complete, officials say no final decisions have been made regarding renovations, building designs or how the property will ultimately be used.
The town plans to conduct engineering evaluations, review financial options and gather community input before moving forward.
Any improvements could be completed in phases, depending on available funding, project costs and community needs.
Major renovations or additional financing would require future approval from the Holly Ridge Town Council.
Town officials say they will continue to keep residents informed as planning for the property moves forward.
