Whiteville man charged after escaping police transport vehicle in New Hanover County

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Whiteville man has been charged with felony flight/escape after breaking free from a sheriff’s deputy’s custody last month by jumping out of a moving transport vehicle.
According to the warrant, Anthony Michael White, 33, jumped out of a moving transport vehicle while in the custody of Columbus County deputies. The vehicle was en route to the New Hanover County Detention Facility.
The warrant states White was “lawfully confined” at the time of his escape and had already been charged with felony assault by strangulation, for which he was awaiting trial.
Court records show White faces several charges stemming from an Aug. 30 arrest:
- Felony assault by strangulation
- Misdemeanor domestic violence
- Assault on a female
- Two counts of resisting a police officer
