SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The CineBay Film Festival is returning to Brunswick County this weekend, offering an afternoon of independent films, documentaries and international storytelling.

The fifth annual festival will take place Sunday, Oct. 18, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Williamson Event Center at the Odell Williamson Auditorium in Shallotte.

Admission is free, but advance reservations are required due to limited seating.

This year’s festival will feature a variety of independent films, including a short film created by students participating in a local filmmaking workshop.

The lineup also includes the documentary Burning Ones by Ken Taibbi and a selection of short films from Japan by Jamie Kassler.

Organizers say the event aims to highlight filmmakers at different stages of their careers while bringing the community together through storytelling and cinema.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to experience independent films, discover new voices, and support the art of filmmaking,” organizers said. “We encourage everyone to join us for this special fifth-anniversary celebration.”

Doors will open at 2:30 p.m., with screenings beginning at 3 p.m.

Complimentary popcorn, drinks and candy will be available for attendees.

Organizers encourage residents to reserve tickets in advance to secure a seat.
