WILMINGTON (WWAY) — 47-year-old Davy Spencer pleaded guilty in court today to a deadly stabbing in downtown Wilmington back in April.

He was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Spencer was sentenced to serve 251 to 314 months in prison.

Prior police reports say officers responded around 2 a.m. Sunday, April 5, to reports of multiple fights in the 100 block of North Front Street. During that incident, 21-year-old Daniel Montano was stabbed and later died despite life-saving efforts.

Montano was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines Regiment at Camp Lejeune.
