WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Ashley took advantage of its opportunities on both sides of the ball Friday, shutting out New Hanover 27-0 at home to extend its winning streak to three games.

With a packed crowd on hand for homecoming, the Screaming Eagles were under pressure tp perform for their home crowd.

Ashley started with a defensive takeaway when sophomore defensive lineman Alex LeMaster recovered a fumble.

Senior running back Michael Miller Jr. helped Ashley get on the scoreboard, finding a gap in the New Hanover defense. Sutton later connected with wide receiver Jahmeer Damon on a contested catch as the Wildcats looked to generate momentum.

Ashley continued to create problems for New Hanover’s offense when junior safety Tyson Hammonds intercepted a pass deflected in the air, adding another takeaway for the Screaming Eagles.

Miller Jr. continued to make his presence felt near the goal line, pushing through defenders on a short-yardage play as Ashley maintained control.

The Screaming Eagles ultimately secured the 27-0 shutout, extending their winning streak to three games.

Late in the game, New Hanover wide receiver Damarre Hill took snaps at quarterback. It was unclear whether Sutton’s absence was injury-related or a coaching decision.
