GasBuddy report shows NC gas prices dropped more than 35 cents in a week

NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — Average gasoline prices in North Carolina fell more than 35 cents per gallon over the past week, reaching $3.57 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy.
The statewide average dropped 35.3 cents from the previous week and was 55.8 cents lower than a month ago. However, prices remained 85.6 cents higher than they were a year ago, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 6,092 gas stations across North Carolina.
Prices also declined in several major North Carolina markets. Fayetteville averaged $3.44 per gallon, down 39.5 cents from the previous week. Charlotte and Greensboro both averaged $3.60 per gallon, decreases of 32.2 cents and 29.6 cents, respectively.
GasBuddy reported the cheapest gas station in North Carolina was selling fuel for $3.23 per gallon Sunday, while the most expensive was charging $5.15 — a difference of $1.92 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline fell 5.5 cents over the past week to $4.24 per gallon. The national average was down 23 cents from a month ago but remained $1.26 higher than a year ago.
Diesel prices moved in the opposite direction nationally, increasing 5.2 cents over the past week to an average of $6.30 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said falling gasoline prices were driven in part by fuel tax suspensions in some states and price-cycling markets returning to lower prices.
De Haan said future prices will depend partly on geopolitical developments and changes in oil markets. He also cautioned that some states could see prices rise again in the coming days if oil prices increase.
GasBuddy’s historical data shows North Carolina’s average gasoline price was $2.72 per gallon on Oct. 19, 2025, compared with $3.57 on Oct. 19, 2026.
