Laney rolls past New Hanover 34-7 in cross-town conference matchup

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The Laney Buccaneers bounced back from last week’s loss with a commanding 34-7 victory over the New Hanover Wildcats on Friday night at Legion Stadium. Both teams entered the Carolina Coast Conference matchup looking to get back in the win column, but Laney took control early and never looked back.

Buccaneers quarterback Joseph Stough wasted little time getting the offense going, connecting with junior wide receiver Niko Warren for a touchdown to give Laney an early 7-0 lead. Stough continued his strong start through the air, finding Emery Brown downfield for another touchdown reception to extend the Buccaneers’ lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

New Hanover struggled to move the ball offensively as Laney continued to build its advantage. Still in the first quarter, Stough escaped pressure and connected with Kilby Theiss-Dixon, who took the ball into the end zone for another touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-0.

The Buccaneers kept their momentum rolling into the second quarter. Stough once again found Theiss-Dixon for a touchdown, giving the receiver his second score of the night and sending Laney into halftime with a 28-0 lead.

New Hanover managed to get on the scoreboard in the second half, but the Buccaneers maintained control to secure the 34-7 victory. The win puts Laney back in the win column following last week’s loss.
