WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — ACCESS of Wilmington has announced the appointment of Jessie Tait as the new program director of Project SOAR, an adaptive sports and recreation program serving veterans and first responders across southeastern North Carolina.

Tait, a U.S. Air Force veteran brings extensive experience in veteran advocacy, community engagement and helping military members transition into civilian life.

Raised in an Air Force family with a history of military service dating back to the Revolutionary War, Tait has dedicated much of her career to supporting veterans and their families.

She has worked with several nationally recognized veteran organizations, including The Honor Foundation, Bunker Labs and Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families.

Tait also has more than four years of national media and communications experience, serving as a contributor, subject-matter expert and panelist on Newsmax and various podcasts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jessie to the ACCESS family,” said Paula Crozier, Executive Director of ACCESS of Wilmington. “Her military background, national connections, and genuine passion for veterans make her an exceptional addition to our team. Project SOAR has grown into an incredible community of veterans who find connection, purpose, and renewed confidence through sports and recreation. As a current SOAR participant and now, our Project SOAR Director, Jessie’s leadership will help us build on that foundation, expand opportunities, and reach even more veterans and their families throughout southeastern North Carolina.”

As program director, Tait will oversee Project SOAR’s adaptive sports, outdoor recreation, community outreach and veteran engagement initiatives.

The program offers activities including kayaking, sailing, surfing, golf, scuba diving and fitness programs designed to promote physical health, mental well-being and social connections.

Tait is also an enthusiast of cars, motorcycles and outdoor adventures, bringing a passion for recreation and new experiences to her leadership role.

“Project SOAR is about more than sports and recreation. It’s about creating a community where veterans feel welcomed, valued, and connected,” added Crozier. “We are excited for the relationships Jessie will build and the new energy and ideas she will bring as we continue to grow this important program.”

Project SOAR, which stands for Sports, Outreach, and Adaptive Recreation, is one of several programs operated by ACCESS of Wilmington.
