Free on-demand transit system coming to Fort Bragg in 2027

FORT BRAGG, NC (WTVD) — Service members and their families on Fort Bragg will soon have a new, free way to get around without the need for a personal vehicle. An on-demand ride service is coming to the base next summer.
The microtransit program, called the Bragg Connector, aims to improve access and mobility across the sprawling 160,000-acre installation.
Modeled after a similar system at Fort Carson in Colorado, the Bragg Connector will function more like a rideshare than a traditional bus, allowing riders to request trips through a mobile app.
“Someone who’s living in a housing area in Fort Bragg would be able to access this on-demand service from their home,” said Adam DiGaudio, Intergovernmental Military Manager for Fayetteville.
“It creates a degree of social capital interactions with people, getting them out of their barracks, getting them out of their house, giving them an option to navigate from point A to point B when they really need to.”
The city of Fayetteville is collaborating with Fort Bragg, the Department of Public Works, Garrison Headquarters, and North Carolina Park Transportation’s Integrated Mobility Division to plan the Bragg Connector microtransit program.
“We are working to create a new type of transit operation focused on serving service members, their families, dependents, residents, and civilian employees on the installation,” DiGaudio said.
With more than 240,000 service members, families and employees on post, the need for flexible transportation options is high.
DiGaudio noted the program is still in the early stages, with questions about the number of vehicles and employee structure yet to be finalized. “As we nail those things down, we’ll have a better idea and give the Army a recommendation and a proposal on what we think the true cost of the program will be,” he said.
Potential stops for the Bragg Connector include the Child Development Center, barracks, and dining facilities.
Unlike fixed bus routes, the Bragg Connector will provide point-to-point service on demand for anyone on the installation.
