State Farm reports spike in vehicle vandalism claims on Halloween, offers tips to stay safe

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Vehicle vandalism claims nationwide were 34% higher on Halloween than on other days in October, according to a 2025 report from State Farm.
With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, the insurance company is encouraging drivers to take precautions to protect their vehicles and belongings.
State Farm recommends parking in a garage or well-lit, populated area, locking vehicle doors and windows, and removing valuables from inside.
Drivers can also consider using security cameras or other technology to deter potential vandals.
“Just having a camera or something that looks like a camera can be a big deterrent,” said Roszell Gadson with State Farm. “People may think twice if they think their image is going to be recording.”
State Farm also warns that bumper stickers expressing personal or political views could make vehicles a target for vandalism.
According to the company, vehicle vandalism may be covered under the comprehensive coverage portion of an auto insurance policy. Comprehensive coverage generally applies to damage unrelated to a collision, including vandalism, theft and certain other types of damage.
Drivers are encouraged to review their insurance policies to understand their coverage.
