NC Board of Elections calls emergency meeting to consider extending voting hours in Columbus County, other precincts

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The North Carolina State Board of Elections has called an emergency meeting Tuesday afternoon to consider extending voting hours at several precincts across the state, including one in Columbus County.
The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3, and will be held remotely via Webex.
According to the board’s tentative agenda, members will consider extending voting hours at the South Williams-Tabor City Courthouse precinct, located at 110 W. Fourth St. in Tabor City.
The board will also consider possible extensions at polling locations in Gates, Lenoir, Watauga, Wilkes and Wilson counties, along with multiple precincts in Hertford County.
The agenda does not specify why extensions are being considered or how much additional voting time may be requested.
Under North Carolina law, the State Board of Elections can authorize extended voting hours under certain circumstances.
The board says additional precincts may be considered during the meeting as needed.
