Columbus County polling site extends voting hours to 8:15 p.m. after technical issue

TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY) — A technical issue earlier Tuesday at the South Williams precinct in Columbus County has resulted in voting hours being extended until 8:15 p.m., according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
The State Board of Elections held a press conference Tuesday to provide updates on the issue and other reported voting delays.
Executive Director Sam Hayes said officials had also reported delays in Hertford, Gates, Wilson and Lenoir counties.
State election officials said voters who are in line by 7:30 p.m. may cast a regular ballot. Those who arrive at a polling site with extended hours, after 7:30 p.m. must cast a provisional ballot.
The State Board of Elections plans to hold another press conference at 4 p.m. Tuesday to provide additional updates on its response and any other reported precinct issues.
