Heide Trask’s football season ends with 56-28 playoff loss to Farmville Central
PITT COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Heide Trask Titans saw their football season come to an end Friday night, falling 56-28 to Farmville Central in the first round of the NCHSAA 3A East state playoffs.
The 23rd-seeded Titans traveled to Pitt County to take on the Jaguars, who wasted little time taking control of the game. On the first play from scrimmage, Farmville Central’s Z’Mareon Brown broke free for a long run deep into Trask territory before scoring a touchdown on the following play.
The Titans struggled to get their offense going early. Farmville Central’s Jahleel Barrett-Prayer tackled Trask quarterback Travis Brotherton for a loss, forcing the Titans into a three-and-out. On the Jaguars’ next offensive play, quarterback Connor Kessler connected with Jack Beamon for a 26-yard touchdown, giving Farmville Central a 14-0 lead.
The Jaguars continued to dominate on both sides of the ball, with Carlnell Cotton stopping Trask’s Jacob Warren in the backfield. Cotton then made his presence felt offensively, scoring on a 20-yard run down the right sideline to extend Farmville Central’s lead.
He wasn’t finished. Later in the first quarter, Cotton took a short pass from Kessler and raced 56 yards for another touchdown, giving the Jaguars a commanding 28-0 advantage.
Despite falling behind early, Heide Trask battled back to put 28 points on the scoreboard. However, Farmville Central maintained its lead and secured a 56-28 victory, advancing to the next round of the state playoffs while ending the Titans’ season.
