Alzheimer’s Association invites New Hanover County residents to 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting residents of New Hanover County and surrounding areas to participate in the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter will host the Wilmington walk at UNC Wilmington’s Greene Track & Field, 801 Hamilton Drive.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. The walk will begin immediately after the ceremony.

Participants will honor people affected by Alzheimer’s disease during the event’s Promise Garden ceremony. Walkers will carry flowers in different colors representing their personal connections to the disease.

The Alzheimer’s Association says more than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, while nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

In North Carolina, more than 210,000 people are living with Alzheimer’s, according to the association, with about 338,000 caregivers.

Registration is available for participants and team captains. The organization is also seeking sponsors and volunteers for the event.
