American Heart Association seeks applicants for community health grants

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The American Heart Association is accepting applications from community organizations seeking funding for initiatives focused on improving cardiovascular health in parts of North Carolina.

With support from Novant Health, the organization will provide grants ranging from $2,500 to $15,000 to groups working in the Greater Charlotte, Triad and Cape Fear regions.

The funding can support initiatives aimed at improving access to healthy foods, blood pressure management and other community health resources.

The American Heart Association said heart disease is the leading cause of death in North Carolina, while stroke is the fifth-leading cause, citing data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 9. Grant recipients are expected to be announced in November.

Applications are available in English and Spanish through the American Heart Association.
