Another student charged with making threat to area school

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The number of students charged with threats against schools in southeastern North Carolina since the Feb. 14 school shooting in Florida continues to grow.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies arrested a 14-year-old Burgaw Middle School student early this morning. The sheriff’s office says the student is accused of making a verbal threat of a school shooting to classmates.

Investigators say school administrators learned of the threat around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and notified the sheriff’s office. Deputies took the student into custody around 2 a.m. at his home.

The student, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, has been charged with making a false report of mass violence on educational property.
