Anti-Flock activists applauds Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office transparency

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) — After a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office employee resigned for allegedly misusing its Flock Safety cameras, an anti-Flock advocate is applauding the office’s transparency.

In a video statement on Facebook, Sheriff Brian Chism says the alleged misuse was identified during an activity review of the office’s Flock program.

Chism did not share how the program was misused or the name of the former employee.

Mark Williams, attorney at Rice Law and founder of De-Flock ILM, says he applauds the sheriff for sharing this information publicly.

“My read of the law is, he was not required to do that, and that’s part of the problem, is if you misuse the system within law enforcement nobody knows usually the only way we know is if criminal charges are filed.”

The employee’s alleged misuse is currently under review by the SBI.

The sheriff’s office has also launched a transparency portal which shares the program’s policies and usage.
