Arrest made in Columbus County mailbox vandalism spree

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A South Carolina man has been arrested in connection with a string of mailbox vandalism incidents across Columbus County.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the incidents happened in the communities of North Whiteville, Evergreen and Macedonia, where numerous mailboxes were damaged during a spree of property destruction.

Investigators say one incident involved an opossum being discarded onto the porch of a residence.

On Monday,, deputies, with assistance from the Horry County Police Department, arrested Walker Chase Richardson of Aynor, South Carolina.

Authorities say Richardson was extradited to North Carolina on Wednesday.

He is facing multiple charges, including 14 counts of injury to real property, 10 counts of misdemeanor conspiracy, two counts of felony conspiracy, damage to property and felony littering of hazardous waste.

The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges and arrests are possible.
