Arrest made in Columbus County shooting that left one dead, two others hurt

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting that happened during a party near Chadbourn last Friday night.

The shooting happened in the Five Points community.

CCSo says 18-year-old Markel Evans was shot and killed. Two other teens, ages 14 and 16, were also shot.

The suspect is under 18 years old, so their name won’t be released at this time. The juvenile is set to appear in court on Tuesday in Columbus County.

“The District Attorney’s Office will begin necessary procedures to transfer this matter to Superior Court,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a release. “We are coordinating closely with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office concerning the investigation and we have been in touch with the victim’s family regarding the court process. We encourage anyone with additional information about this case to contact the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.”
