I'm no stranger to Wilmington and the surrounding towns/beaches. The Port City is, simply put, my happy place. About me? Well, I'm a smile-generating, storytelling and problem-solving journalist who rejoined the WWAY Team in November 2013 as an evening anchor. Quite the shift change from the first visit as morning anchor for Good Morning Carolina a few moons ago. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in journalism in 1999 and started the career at a small station in West Virginia. This was the "foot in the door" job, where you worked in the snow, uphill, both ways. Literally sometimes (with about 50 pounds of camera and tripod). But because of that three-year run, I appreciate every facet of the broadcast news process; from what goes on behind the scenes to the final product hitting the airwaves. It really takes a good team to pull it off. In 2003 I moved to Wilmington and WWAY as the morning anchor alongside Jerry Jackson. Two down home fellas with a down home accent.. The southern drawl was strong y'all! A couple years later I headed to the ABC affiliate in Columbia, SC. After a short stint as weekend anchor, the duties increased to 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. anchor/managing editor. Toot the horn moment: The SC Department of Consumer Affairs awarded this guy their "Consumer Reporter of the Year" medal for always looking out for the community. A watchdog of sorts. Now, full circle, I'm back in my happy place doing what I love to do. Simply put: being part of a community I love. Downtime? Well, join me at Freeman Park fishing and camping out or at one of the many wonderful community events around town. By the way, my dog, MrWink, wanted me to say that adopted dogs ROCK! (OK, maybe I said it, but there are some hidden treasures and smiles at animal shelters. I know first hand.) See y'all tonight!
