Autopsy planned after decomposing body found in Columbus County
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators in Columbus County are waiting on results from an autopsy after hunters found a decomposing body over the weekend.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the woods in the 1800 block of Ten Mile Road in Tabor City around 5 p.m. Sunday. Investigators say a group of bird hunters found the decomposed remains after checking out a foul odor.
The sheriff’s office says the NC Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh will conduct an autopsy to determine the identity of the person and the cause of death.
