Azalea Garden Tour: 410 South Front Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Captain Terry and Mrs. Phoebe Bragg moved into the home on South Front Street about 7 and a half years ago.

Phoebe said they first made sure to get the growth under control and then added plenty of color to the yard.

One of the favorites is the fragrant tea olives, but you’ll also see plenty of knock out roses and resurrection ferns.

We can’t forget the family of American Box Turtles that live year round in the vegetable and fruit garden.

The Braggs make sure to take care of these special reptiles.

“They are the state reptile of NC,” Phoebe Bragg said. “They aren’t endangered, but they are threatened. And when we bought the house we didn’t know that they were back there. They were just drinking out of the sprinklers. We found a momma, daddy, and three babies. Now we have, I think, nearly two dozen.”

You can’t forget about the view of the Cape Fear River from this hidden treasure in downtown Wilmington.

Mrs. Bragg said you forget you live in the city when hanging out in the backyard.
