Azalea Garden Tour: Hill Garden

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Among the gardens on this year’s Azalea Garden Tour is a love affair for the property at 7919 Masonboro Sound Road that began more than 75 years ago.

The Orman family bought the 18 acres of sandy land in 1944 and passed the plantings down from generation to generation. Eventually, the same plants and the same love the Ormans had for the earth were shared by the Hill family.

“This garden is magnificent. That is my description of this garden,” said outreach educator Marianna Stacy. “It’s absolutely magnificent.”

The Hills clearly added a more modern touch to the historic garden. A beautiful stone waterfall highlights the backyard with even more azaleas and camellias surrounding it.
