Back Door Kitchen Tour reveals uniqueness of homes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Residents of Old Wilmington (ROW) opened their doors to visitors for the annual Back Door Kitchen Tour this weekend.

Guests admired the uniqueness of historic homes along South Front Street to North 7th Street. Homeowners say they preserve the history of these homes by only making a few livable changes to the inside.

“Every house down here in the Historic District is unique,” said homeowner and house captain Phoebe Bragg. “Everyone who comes in becomes a steward of the home because we hope to pass these homes on to someone else eventually. We put our own mark, our own stamp on it and that makes it more unique.”

ROW consists mainly of volunteers. All of the money made from tours like this one goes towards projects in Downtown Wilmington like pedestrian art and reforestation along 5th Avenue.
