Bald eagle recovering in Rocky Point from shooting has died

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) – A juvenile bald eagle that was just starting to recovery from surgery after being shot with a 12 gauge shotgun has died.

The Cape Fear Raptor Center posted the sad news on Facebook.

“Although Dr Joni Seymour (surgery) and Rocky Mountain Wildlife Rehabbers (transport) fought valiantly to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. He had overwhelming infection from his open fractures and he was extremely weak from the injury. We appreciate everyone’s concern about this magnificent young bird. We all fell in love with him,” the post stated.

The bald eagle was found in Bertie County. It had five wounds and multiple fractures. The bird was recovering at the Cape Fear Raptor Center in isolation after a five hour operation.
