Bald Head Island under boil water notice, power back on
THIS INFORMATION FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM
The Village of Bald Head Island remains under a State of Emergency.
BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (BHIPD) — The power was restored to the island around 11 a.m. Currently the public water system is turned off as a result of the prolonged power failure earlier this morning. This was done to reduce the risk of home sewer systems spilling sewage onto the ground. We plan to turn the water system back on this afternoon, provided no other issues arise.
A BOILING WATER NOTICE is in effect.
There are numerous roads blocked by downed trees and crews are working hard at clearing them.
Some ocean overwash was experienced, however the standing water is primarily isolated between the dunes and the main roadways, and not in the main roadways. There is some standing water on secondary roadways.
Beach erosion did occur on east beach, west beach and part of south beach.
