Battleship draws patriotic crowd on Independence Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For many, the 4th of July is a time to reflect on American history. And on that note, the USS North Carolina was a popular spot today.

Visitors stopped by the state’s World War II memorial and paid tribute to the Battleship and those who sailed her. The ship is the host site for tonight’s Battleship Blast fireworks show along the Wilmington riverfront.

“Between the historic value of downtown Wilmington and the historic value of the Battleship, to be able to celebrate Independence Day here in downtown Wilmington is really a thrill,” said Stacie North, who works at the Battleship.
