Battleship North Carolina to light up for U.S. Air Force anniversary

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Battleship North Carolina will light up across the Cape Fear River Friday night to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force.
The Battleship North Carolina Memorial will be illuminated in the Air Force’s service colors beginning at sunset Friday, Sept. 18.
The Air Force was established as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces in 1947.
“The Battleship North Carolina is proud to recognize the men and women of the United States Air Force and the generations who have served before them,” Battleship North Carolina Memorial Executive Director Dr. Jay Martin said. “This illumination is a way to say thank you for their service, their sacrifice, and the commitment they continue to make to our country.”
The special illumination will be visible from downtown Wilmington’s Riverwalk, nearby parks and other locations across the Cape Fear River.
