Bell ringer brings holiday joy through song at Wilmington Walmart
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you go to the Walmart off of Sigmon Road, you may run into a Salvation Army bell ringer with quite the voice. His mission is to bring holiday cheer through song.
David Alston sings almost every year for the Salvation Army. He’s been doing it since 2005. He collects donations from shoppers while bringing the Christmas classics to customers. He says his ability to sing is a gift from above. All he wants is to used that gift to remind people of the meaning of Christmas.
“I get a joy out of singing. Because that’s the gift that he gave me. And so I try to sing his praises and if it brings joy other people’s hearts and touches their heart to give, and it help the salvation army out, help the people out, then I’m doing what God told me to do,” Alston said.
He says as long as other people keep the meaning of Christmas in their hearts, the world will be a better place. He also says he has no intention of ever stopping what he does.
