Beth Burns resigns from Pender County Board of Education after appointment to County Commission

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Beth Burns is resigning from the Pender County Board of Education following her appointment to the Pender County Board of Commissioners.

Burns’ resignation is effective once she takes the oath of office and it is properly filed as the District 1 representative on the Board of Commissioners. At that point, her service on the Board of Education will officially come to an end.

The next Pender County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2026.

Burns has represented District 2 on the Pender County Board of Education since 2018.

In her resignation letter, Burns said serving Pender County Schools has been an honor and highlighted the work accomplished on behalf of students and families.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the students, families, teachers and staff of Pender County Schools,” Burns wrote. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on the Board and especially proud of the work we have accomplished on behalf of our students and families.”

Pender County Schools thanked Burns for her service and wished her well in her new role.

The school district said it will have no further comment.

Burns’ transition will leave her District 2 seat on the Board of Education open. The district has not announced details about how the vacancy will be filled.
