Big changes in Oak Island Police Department after two top cops resign
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Within one week, two men at the head of Oak Island’s Police Department resigned.
Assistant Police Chief Tony Burke resigned on Friday, just one week after Chief Gregory Jordan resigned.
The town’s attorney says neither Jordan nor Burke were the subject of any disciplinary investigations when they resigned.
Jordan was hired in 1991. After a series of promotions, he became Chief of Police in 2016. He resigned on October 12, the same week Oak Island Mayor Cin Brochure’s son was rearrested on child exploitation charges.
Burke was hired in 1998. He also stayed with the department through a series of promotions, until he was named Assistant Chief in 2016.
No word on what prompted the sudden departure of both men, who had each been with the department for more than twenty years.
