Boil water advisory issued for parts of Columbus County following water main break

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Residents in portions of Columbus County are under a precautionary boil water advisory after a contractor accidentally damaged a water line serving the Columbus County Public Water Supply System on Monday.
According to Columbus County officials, local contractors inadvertently struck a water main in Columbus County Water & Sewer District III, disrupting water service to customers in the affected area. Utility crews are working to repair the damaged line and restore normal service as quickly as possible. The issue was advised at 4:46 pm on June 30th.
The advisory affects all customers on Waterfall Lane, Cascade Drive, and Misty Lane.
As repairs are completed and water flow is restored throughout the system, officials say customers may notice temporary water quality issues, including discolored water. County staff will continue monitoring the system, and the water is expected to clear within the next 24 hours.
Residents who experience discolored water are asked to report the issue by calling the county’s after-hours number at 910-770-2158.
As a precaution, officials recommend that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or preparing food be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use over the next 24 hours.
The county says it will provide updates if conditions change or if the advisory is extended.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official Columbus County communications for the latest information.
