Boys & Girls Homes to host Christmas concert, nativity sale in Lake Waccamaw

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WWAY) — Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina is preparing to host a three-day Christmas event later this month, featuring a nativity scene sale and performances by local musicians.
The Thankful Christmas Concert and Nativity Show will take place Nov. 20-22 at the organization’s campus at 400 Flemington Drive in Lake Waccamaw.
The event will begin with a nativity scene sale in the Fellowship Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, and Saturday, Nov. 21. Additional sales will take place Sunday, Nov. 22, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Organizers say thousands of nativity scenes and individual pieces will be available, with most priced between $1 and $25. Some items will be priced separately.
The event concludes with a Christmas concert Sunday, Nov. 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the campus chapel.
Scheduled performers include the Burdette Duo, Brunswick Brass Choir and local musicians Camille Hartley, Austin Johnson and Jerry Green.
The Boys & Girls Homes choir will also perform for the first time in 20 years.
“This event combines our gratitude for all our blessings and the coming joy of Christmas with an amazing array of seasonal music from artists around our region,” said Amanda Irwin, the organization’s director of marketing and communications.
The organization says the nativity show follows earlier Christmas events that began in 2022 after Tabor City florist and collector Rodney Gore donated more than 30,000 nativity pieces.
Proceeds from nativity sales and donations collected during the concert will support Boys & Girls Homes programs, which currently provide care for more than 120 children, according to the organization.
Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina is a nonprofit headquartered in Lake Waccamaw that provides foster care, adoption services, counseling and residential care for children and families.
