LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Just weeks before the Miss USA competition, Brittany Boltinhouse has been stripped of her title as Miss North Carolina USA 2026 after past social media posts resurfaced and sparked public criticism.

A Duplin County native who now lives in the Cape Fear region, Boltinhouse was crowned Miss North Carolina USA on June 28 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

She had been scheduled to represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant on Aug. 27 in Miami.

In a statement released Wednesday, A Blaize Productions, the organization that produces the Miss North Carolina USA pageant, announced it had ended Boltinhouse’s reign following “careful consideration, multiple conversations, and in consultation with the Miss USA Organization.”

Under the pageant’s succession procedures, first runner-up Myla Hadley has been named Miss North Carolina USA 2026 and will represent the state at the Miss USA pageant later this month.

This is a developing story. WWAY is working to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the decision and will update this article as additional information becomes available.
