Brunswick Co. officials call in the NC Forestry Service to help contain fire
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County is not the only one dealing with brush fires. Brunswick County had to call in the North Carolina Forestry Service to help battle a brush fire Tuesday night.
The fire happened in Southport near the Dutchman Acres neighborhood around 5:30 p.m. The Forestry Service brought in it’s brush plow to plow a barrier around the fire to control and contain it after it burned about five acres.
“Anytime we have hard to get to areas such as this where we can’t access them with our fire engines we have to call in help from the forestry services,” said Southport Fire Department Capt. Charles Drew. “We also had help from six other fire departments in the area with brush trucks and other equipment to help us out.”
Due to high winds Brunswick County officials say they will continue to monitor the brush fire overnight.
No structures were damaged by the fire Tuesday.
