BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Botanical Garden will host a free Fall Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the garden and learn from NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteers.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Brunswick County Botanical Garden, located at 25 Referendum Road, Building N, in Bolivia.

Visitors can explore 17 distinct garden spaces, with Master Gardener volunteers available throughout the garden to answer questions and share gardening information specific to Brunswick County.

The event will feature demonstration and information stations covering topics including composting, fall planting, rain gardens, wildfire risk reduction and the Extension Master Gardener program.

Visitors can also bring their own pruners for a hands-on sharpening demonstration and pick up a free soil sample kit.

Other activities will include a look inside the Master Gardener shed, a “Bucket of Doom” demonstration focused on mosquito control and information about rain barrels available for purchase.

Refreshments will be provided by Brunswick County 4-H Youth Council Club members.

The garden includes native, pollinator, rain, edible and rose gardens, along with other specialty spaces showcasing plants and growing conditions found in Brunswick County.

“One thing I’ve learned from working in the garden is just how friendly and knowledgeable our Master Gardener volunteers are,” said Patty Petrella, president of the Brunswick County Master Gardener Volunteer Association.

The Open House is free and open to the public.
