Brunswick County dog rescue receives donation toward new storm shelter
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY-TV) — Paws Place Dog Rescue received a donation Tuesday as the organization works toward its goal of raising $300,000 for a new storm shelter ahead of hurricane season.
Mister Sparky presented a $500 check to the adoption shelter to support the project.
Paws Place launched the fundraiser after the property experienced flooding during Hurricane Florence and other recent storm events.
Lee VanOmer, president of the shelter’s board of directors, said the organization hopes to complete the new storm shelter and install a fire hydrant before hurricane season begins.
“We don’t receive any federal money, we don’t receive any state money so all the work that we do here for both every day care and for project like the storm shelter and the fire hydrant are by individual donors, local businesses,” VanOmer said.
Officials said the shelter has already raised nearly $275,000 toward its fundraising goal.
