Brunswick County September Teen Court scheduled

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The next session of Brunswick County Teen Court will be September 27, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Brunswick County courthouse. Brunswick County Teen Court is a partnership program between Communities In Schools and the Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office, made possible through financial support provided by the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Brunswick County Schools.

Students are trained to serve as attorneys, jurors, bailiffs, and clerks in real cases involving first-time juvenile offenders. Student volunteers get a hands-on educational experience which helps them better understand our system of justice. Juvenile offenders participating in this diversion program saves the county at least $2,000 per case. During 2014-2015, 81 defendants were served and 93 student volunteers participated in the program.
