Brunswick County voters approve school bond


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – Voters in Brunswick County voted a resounding “yes” to the school bond.

With all 100 precincts reporting, 67 percent of the voters approved the $152 million school bond.

While watching the election returns at the Board of Education office, Superintendent Les Tubb expressed gratitude to the Brunswick County voters.

“The outcome of this election will allow our school system to remain a system of community schools,” Tubb said.

Board of Education Chairman Bud Thorsen who is stepping down after 18 years and who was on the Board during the 1999 bond election said, “This is a great sendoff and has definitely capped my career on the Board.”

A Brunswick County school spokesperson says preliminary work will begin on the bond projects next week.
