Brunswick County to allow roadside shrimp vendors
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — An update on the future of roadside shrimp vendors: The Brunswick County Health Department says there is not enough evidence to justify regulating the vendors based on health concerns.
Some shrimpers had complained that roadside vendors pose a health risk, in part because they sell shrimp out of a cooler even when temperatures hit 90 degrees.
New Hanover County requires vendors to have a permit and inspection from county health officials.
It also prohibits selling processed or cooked seafood from the side of the road.
Pender County does not regulate roadside seafood vendors.
