Brunswick County woman pleads guilty to killing friend

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — And another Brunswick County murder case is over after a woman charged with killing her friend last fall entered a plea yesterday.

Martha Farmer pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

Last September Farmer shot her friend Carla Bussard in the parking lot of an abandoned restaurant off Highway 211.

Later she responded to the crime scene as an EMS worker.

Investigators believe the murder may have been related to a love triangle.

Farmer will spend at least 16 years in prison for the murder charge plus another six years for the kidnapping.
