Burgwin-Wright House opens new special collections room

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Historic Downtown Wilmington is known for its history and it got a bit more historic with a new special collections room dedicated to the Burgwin-Wright House.

The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America hosted a dedication ceremony Thursday afternoon unveiling a new room to house important pieces of history.

The new room includes minutes, photographs, scrapbooks, architectural renderings and documents. All of which preserve what the women of the organization have done throughout the years.

Executive Direction Joy Allen says it was an exciting day for the members of the Burgwin-Wright House.

“While they’ve been performing their acts of patriotic service and historic preservation, and keeping history alive, they’ve made history themselves and it’s inspiring. What they’ve done is inspiring for other people,” Allen said.

The new dedication room will be open to researchers and historians by appointment.
